Come to church - it helps! We meet on Sunday mornings at 10.30am. You are also welcome to join us for Bible Study on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Feel free to to take part, or just listen.
We hold these meetings at the Memorial Hall, Smithfield Street, SY11 2EG. The Hall is wheelchair-friendly (access through main door) including toilets. There is ample, free parking in the car park next to the Hall.
Children are very welcome. We don't have a children's room or creche. We encourage parents to have their children with them in meetings, and to help them play quietly and take part in the meeting in an age-appropriate way. But if you need to take your child out, there is space elsewhere in the Hall to do so. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
The Well is a Christian charity and church based in Oswestry and Shrewsbury (Shropshire, England). Jesus Christ is good news, and our goal is to bring His positive message of good news and hope to everyone.
We are active members of Churches Together for Oswestry, and of Oswestry Borderland Tourism.
We work hard in personal, family and community revitalisation, integration and development.
We are a multinational community, coming from a range of nations and backgrounds and we exist as to share good news - in word and deed.
As well as our beloved Shropshire, our work has taken us all over Britain, as well as to some of the poorest, most troubled parts of the world.
You can find us at our ministry centre on the Balcony Level of Oswestry's Indoor market; or during our service times at Oswestry's Memorial Hall. Feel free also to contact us via our 'Get in Touch' page here on this website.
We are active members of Churches Together for Oswestry, and work closely with churches of various Christian traditions locally, across the UK and the world.

Oswestry means "Oswald's Tree" (Welsh 'Croes Oswallt' meaning 'Oswald's Cross.') The town is named after the Christian King Oswald of Northumbria, who was killed there by the pagan King Penda of Mercia, at the battle of Maserfield in the year AD 642. Reginald of Durham records that when King Oswald was killed, his right arm was taken up by a raven into a nearby ash tree, and thrown on the ground, where a well sprung up. You can visit 'Oswald's Well' at Oswald's Well Lane in Oswestry. King Oswald had worked hard to spread the message of the Christian faith through the land.
He co-laboured with the Irish bishop Aidan of Lindisfarne, sometimes translating for Aidan when he preached. Adian was a kind and generous man who travelled on foot ceaselessly through the countryside. Aidan invited everyone he met (both rich and poor) to embrace faith in Jesus Christ, or if they were already Christians, he encouraged them to devote themselves to good deeds and to caring for the poor.
The famous historian Bede, writing within a century of King Oswald's death, particularly notes that King Oswald was generous to the poor and to strangers. Oswestry is a friendly, thriving, bustling market town, blessed with many small, independent businesses and shops. Market days are especially enjoyable. Get yourself a snack from one of the many local vendors, and take a stroll through the lovely Cae Glass Park. Don't forget to visit Oswald's Well, and, of course, to come and see us at The Well in the market, or join us at our meetings at The Memorial Hall!
