What to expect

Meetings (Shrewsbury)

Expect some music and a talk or discussion about Jesus. Our meetings typically last about 90 minutes. Then those who want to, stay around to chat for a while over some refreshments.

Children & Young Adults (Shrewsbury)

In Shrewsbury, we have a family room, clearly visible from the main meeting room. Parents/guardians of young children are welcome to use that room during and after the meetings if they want to. There are toys, colouring and craft items.

The opportunity to teach children is a tremendous, God-given privilege. We welcome the time we have at the Well to help give young lives a good start for a positive future.

As part of this, we run a Children's Bible Club  and a Young Adults Group, in our designated family room and Young Adults' room in Shrewsbury (Sundays, 1030am-1100am).

We ask at least one parent or guardian to accompany their children at Bible Club, to help with personal care, activities, etc.

Children then accompany their parents/guardians for worship in the main meeting.

During the main talk, we provide craft activities linked to what we have been learning in children's Bible Club. This gives children the chance to explore independently what they have learnt.

Central to all that we do are Jesus' words recorded in Luke 18:16 - "Jesus called them to him, saying 'Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God." We aim to help children come to Jesus.

Young Adults (Shrewsbury)

Identity is a highly contested topic in today's society.  Here at the Well, we aim to give young adults a Bible-based view of their identity, which begins with the fact that they are deeply loved by God.

We run a Young Adults' group meeting from 1030am to 1130am on Sundays. Discussion and group activities aim to reinforce the truths revealed in God's living Word, as we prayerfully seek to help equip young adults for life in an increasingly challenging world.

Healthy social interaction is important for young adults, so we organise half-termly pizza nights with Christian-themed films.

We also have a games room, so young adults can enjoy a game of pool, and fellowship once the Sunday meeting is over.

Who We Are

The Well is a Christian charity and church based in Shrewsbury and Oswestry (Shropshire, England).  Jesus Christ is good news, and our goal is to bring His positive message of good news and hope to everyone.

We work hard in personal, family and community revitalisation, integration and development.

We come from a range of nations and backgrounds and we exist as to share good news - in word and deed.

As well as our beloved Shropshire, our work has taken us all over Britain, as well as to some of the poorest, most troubled parts of the world.

You can find us at our ministry centre in Shrewsbury Town Square; at our ministry centre on the Balcony Level of Oswestry's Indoor market; or during our service times at Oswestry's Memorial Hall.  Feel free also to contact us via our 'Get in Touch' page here on this website.

Our Relationship With Other Christian Groups

Currently we're not working directly with any other churches by the name of 'The Well', except  "The Well in Oswestry" and  "The Well in Shrewsbury", and "Ministerio La Fuente" in Honduras.

We do preach on the streets, but please note we are also NOT associated with certain itinerant street preachers who sometimes come to preach in Shrewsbury/Oswestry and bring a message primarily of condemnation.

Shrewsbury Past and Present

During the medieval period, Shrewsbury flourished as a center for trade and commerce. Its strategic location near the Welsh border made it an important market town. Shrewsbury's bustling markets and fairs attracted merchants from far and wide, contributing to the town's economic prosperity. The town's wealth is evident in its well-preserved timber-framed buildings and narrow medieval streets that still form the heart of the town today.

In more recent history, Shrewsbury played a role in the industrial revolution. The construction of canals and the arrival of the railway in the 18th and 19th centuries transformed the town's economy. Industries such as brewing, textiles, and ironworks thrived, bringing newfound wealth and opportunities to the town. The industrial development not only boosted Shrewsbury's economy but also brought about changes in its urban landscape, with the construction of new infrastructure and factories.

Overall, Shrewsbury's history is a testament to its resilience and adaptability. From its early origins as a Saxon settlement to its prominence as a medieval market town and later as an industrial hub, Shrewsbury has evolved and thrived through the centuries. Today, it remains a captivating destination with a charming blend of historic architecture, cultural heritage, and a vibrant community.
